Research and teaching mandate (leeropdracht) Merle de Kreuk focuses on biotechnological and physical mechanisms underlying anaerobic digestion, hydrolysis processes and performance of (aerobic) granular sludge systems. Her team unravels the composition, characteristics and conversion of complex substrates (e.g. waste activated sludge) to improve the (process) design of wastewater treatment plants and digesters, in order to convert liquid waste streams into products or energy.
