Leiden University’s Diversity Symposium; Diversity, equity and inclusion in the sciences and beyond

Leiden University’s Diversity Symposium; Diversity, equity and inclusion in the sciences and beyond

he symposium will be held as a digital event on
Friday 22 January 2021, 14:00-16:00

The closing session will take place on
Tuesday 26 January 2021, 16:00-17:00

Hosted by the Faculty of Science, this year’s symposium will take a hands-on approach as we consider questions such as: What measures can translate the ambition of more diversity in all positions, and in particular leadership positions, into actual change? What does it take to adopt an inclusive approach to teaching regardless of subject? What do students, staff and administrators need in order to take the necessary steps to achieve a more diverse and inclusive learning and working environment?

Leiden University is honoured to be able to welcome Ijeoma Uchegbu, Professor of Pharmaceutical Nanoscience at University College London, and Kerstin Perez, Associate Professor of Physics at MIT, as keynote speakers to help us address these questions.

Change involves commitment and contributions at all levels. This is why the symposium will involve speakers who can inspire and provide insight in a plenary session and training workshops on proactively engaging with bias and exclusion, as well as sessions where students, staff and administrators can engage in a dialogue and discuss collective steps to enable sustainable change.

An invitation including the specifics of the programme will follow.
